Meet Ethan

I'm a family law attorney based in Scottsdale, Arizona. I practice exclusively in family law and I work with people going through some of the hardest moments of their lives — divorce, custody disputes, separation, and the legal questions that come with all of it. My job is to make that process as clear, manageable, and as painless as possible.

MY BACKGROUND

I didn't start out planning to practice family law. Early in my career I handled all kinds of matters — civil litigation, estate planning, business disputes. I was good at it, but family law cases were the ones that stuck with me. They were harder, more personal, and ultimately more meaningful. I now focus exclusively on family law and it's the best professional decision I've made.

Before law school, I spent several years in advertising managing client accounts. That might sound like an odd background for a lawyer, but it shaped how I practice more than I expected. Managing clients taught me that the most important skill isn't knowing the most; it's being able to listen carefully, understand what someone actually needs, and communicate clearly under pressure. I use all of that every day.

I grew up in the Phoenix area and have built my practice here in Scottsdale. I understand how family law actually plays out in Maricopa County, not just in theory, but in practice.

WHY FAMILY LAW

You don't stumble into family law and stay by accident. It's emotionally demanding in a way that other areas of law aren't. You're dealing with people at their most vulnerable and it requires a different kind of commitment. What keeps me here is that the work actually matters. When a case resolves well, a family moves forward. Kids have a stable arrangement. Someone who felt trapped has a path out. I find that genuinely motivating in a way I didn't always expect from a legal career.

HOW I WORK

I believe in taking things one step at a time. Divorce and custody cases can feel overwhelming when you're staring at the whole picture at once. My approach is to break it down, focus on what matters right now, and make sure you understand every decision before we make it.

When you work with me, you work with me. I return calls, I answer questions, and I give you honest assessments of where your case stands and what your options actually are. I'll tell you when something is worth fighting for and when it isn't. That's what I'd want from an attorney.

I'm also realistic about cost and time. Most cases in Arizona take somewhere between nine months and a year. About 90% of the cases I handle settle at or before mediation, which means most clients never see the inside of a courtroom. I prepare every case as though it will go to trial, and I think that preparation is a big part of why most don't have to.

WORKING WITH BURT, FELDMAN & GRENIER

I practice in affiliation with Burt, Feldman & Grenier, a firm with over 70 years of combined family law experience in Arizona. The attorneys at BFG have served as judges pro tem, commissioners, arbitrators, and mediators, and have contributed to family law and Arizona State Bar committees throughout their careers. That depth of experience is something I draw on directly for my clients and it's one of the real advantages of the way I practice.

If you're considering divorce or dealing with a custody issue in the Scottsdale or greater Phoenix area, I'd be glad to talk. Most people who reach out aren't sure what they want yet, they just know they need information. That's exactly what an initial consultation is for. There's no pressure and no rush.
